I've been meaning to get to Tails for awhile now, and finally did it. Huzzah!
Besides the robot characters, I try to make my humanized versions a bit more natural looking, instead of having really crazy anime hair and fantasy outfits. My goal was to make human versions that would invoke the same kind of feelings and reactions from the other characters and audience as their mobian counterparts do. Basically, as if I had to retell all of the Archie Sonic history, but with humans instead of mobians. I'm avoiding the typical gijinka look of KPOP boy with blue emo hair. Personally, that's just not my bag, and I've seen it done too many times to do it myself. Cool beans if that's what you like, it's just not for me.
Now for Tails, there were a number of things I wanted to incorporate: a physical disability/mutation, the unlikely ability to fly and go fast, and the love for gadgety things. It wasn't too long before I settled on having him in a wheelchair to accomplish all those things.
You can't see it here, but the chair transforms ala the Cyclone in Adventure 2. The wheels can come out and fly like a helicopter, it can drop Chuchu bombs via a compartment in the back, it can zoom through loop de loops- he's really packed everything in there besides a PB&J for lunch.
His legs are paralyzed, and have been since he was born. Because of this a lot of people have worried he's not fit to be a Freedom Fighter, but he's so inspired by his big bro Sonic and the drive to prove them wrong, that he's found a way to make it work to his advantage. Over the years, he's become an incredibly capable asset to the team, and if you underestimate him even a little bit because of his age or handicap, he'll have you whooped before you even realized what happened.
Secretly, Tails is my second favorite that I've designed after Sonic. But you won't see me draw him a lot because- I kid you not- it is easier to draw Metal Overlord than it is his wheelchair. Cripes. I'm still learning how to draw him correctly, so forgive me if he looks a little derpy here.

Let's face it, my life isn't terribly exciting at the moment, so in the absence of a journal about the goings-on of my personal day to day business, I'm going to toss an index up here of all the Archie characters I need to or have drawn and my progress on each.
