The software behind AMS is intelligent enough to discount votes from people whose votes are majority downvotes, and it does so with images which have the tags that they are disproportionally downvoting. Complete tagging helps this a lot, of course.
The site's been spread around enough by now to garner the attention of some unpleasant fans who were never told 'no' as kids. Sontails art may get downvoted, but that doesn't mean it reflects the overall quality of a work. It's just a matter of who sees it when, in this case the aforementioned new users. Either way I wouldn't take it too personally, they're just deeply spiteful people who always need to let their opinions be known.
I mean they do that to a bunch of straight ships too It's so sad:(
Seriously, what’s wrong with people that they feel the need to downvote out of sheer spite for a ship’s existence?
